Today is the Day of Mongolian Pride

The Day of Mongolian Pride is a public holiday celebrated in Mongolia since 2012.

By the decree of the President of Mongolia on January 9, 2012, the birth date of the Great Khan Genghis was officially recognized based on the findings of the relevant working group and the recommendations of the Academy of Sciences, establishing it as the first day of the first month of the lunar calendar, and this day was designated as the "Day of Mongolian Pride."

This day serves as an occasion to strengthen and reinforce the independence, sovereignty, and national unity of the country each year. It emphasizes the deep study of the traditions of statehood, history, and culture, the passing on of these values to future generations, and the promotion of these to the world. A tradition has been established to award one citizen who has made significant contributions to the state, society, and nation with the highest state honor of Mongolia—the "Genghis Khan" medal.

On the Day of Mongolian Pride, a ceremony is held to raise the traditional Great White Banner of the united Mongolian state, to pay tribute at the statue of the Great Khan Genghis, and a high-profile wrestling competition takes place.

To commemorate the 862nd anniversary of the birth of Great Khan Genghis and the "Day of Mongolian Pride," the national flag was raised, and the nine-legged Great White Banner was ceremoniously unfurled in Sukhbaatar Square.

As the Great White Banner was raised, it was accompanied by the ceremonial troops and the State Special Protection Service, while the Military Band played a tribute.
