Today, the President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj has arrived in Havana on an Official Visit to the Republic of Cuba.
The President began his visit by paying tribute to the Memorial of Jose Marti, a national hero of Cuba, by laying wreaths.
After the official welcoming ceremony by the President of the Council of State of Cuba and the President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba Raul Castro, the state hymns of the two countries were sounded.
At the welcoming ceremony, from Mongolian side Member of Parliament and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ts.Munkh-Orgil, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Cuba Ts.Batbayar, and from Cuba First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcelino Medina Gonzalez and other officials were present.
Diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Cuba was established in December 1960 and the respective Embassies were opened in the capital cities of the both countries in 1962. During the communism, the both countries had maintained mutual exchange of high-level visits. For instance, Yu.Tsedenbal’s visit to Cuba in 1972, J.Batmunkh’s visit in 1984, and the Second Secretary of the Communist Party and Minister of Defense of Cuba Raul Castro’s visit to Mongolia in 1970.
President Elbegdorj’s visit is highlighted as the first visit between the two countries in a half-century.
