Ankle Bone Games Registered as UNESCO World Intangible Heritage

(Ulaanbaatar) Nov 28, UNESCO registered Mongolian Ankle Bone Games as world's intangible heritage. The news were shared by MP L.Bold, former UNESCO Mongolia National Committee head, onto his twitter account, while he mentioned how competitive the process was.

Last year UNESCO had registered Mongolian Script Calligraphy, Mongolian Ger Crafting and Ganjuur sutra inscribed with nine precious stones into World Heritage List.

Currently Mongolia boasts with registered locations and cultural items already listed in the World Heritage list.

Properties inscribed on the World Heritage List

World Cultural Heritage:

•Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape 2004
•Petroglyphic Complexes of the Mongolian Altai 2011

World Natural Heritage:

•Uvs Nuur Basin 2003

Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity:

•Traditional Morin Khuur Music 2008
•Mongolian National Long Song 2009
•Mongolian Naadam 2010
•Mongolian Traditional Khuumii  2010
•Eagle Festival  2010 (including 12 countries from Asia, Europe and Arabia)
•Mongolian Ger Crafting 2013

List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding:

•Mongolian Tuuli (Myth) 2009
•Mongolian Traditional Dance: Bii Bielgee 2009
•Mongolian Traditional Fife art 2009
•Traditoinal Mongolian Flute technique to play Long Song  (Closed Breath) 2011
•Mongolian Script Calligraphy 2013
