9% of total livestock or 6.3 million died

According to D.Amarbayasgalan, the Head of the Cabinet Secretariat, 6.3 million livestock died nationwide.

In Mongolia, animal husbandry accounts for 10.5% of the gross domestic product and 21.6% of the labor force. Due to global warming, in the last 80 years, the average annual temperature has increased by 2.36 degrees, rainfall has decreased by 7%, and dzud occurs every 3-4 years, which has created major challenges for the animal husbandry.

In the last 70 years, a total of 45 million livestock died due to 13 dzuds in Mongolia. In 2010, 22% of total livestock died, and 8.6 thousand herder households lost all their livestock. Currently, there are 1,521 households that have lost 70% of their livestock, 732 households that have lost 88% of their livestock, 326 households that have lost 90% of their livestock, and 380 households that have lost all livestock.
