The 6th Silver Reeds winter festival was successfully held at the Khar Us Lake and Jargalant Mountain in Khovd province, Western Mongolia in late February. The 2-day winter festival attracted participants and spectators from 17 soums of Khovd province, numerous Mongolian celebrities from Ulaanbaatar and other provinces of the western region.
The festival comprised various fun sports and competitions such as skating, ice shooting, marathon, dance, camel race, and participants from the 17 soums (soum ~ county) competed in teams. Khovd province is famous for being a home to many ethnic groups of Mongolia, and the locals proudly showed off their rich cultural heritage by performing lots of music and dances. The most successful soums were selected based on their scores in team competitons, and the winners were Chandmani soum, Duut soum and Mankhan soum.
Moreover, slogan of this year’s Silver Reeds was “Let’s protect the Mother Earth” and a number of nature conservation activities such as cleaning garbage around Khar Us Lake were convened during the event. The governor’s office of Khovd province organised the whole event.
Photographer Ch.Batzaya captured the best moments of the festival and sharing with us here.
We will inform about next year’s Silver Reeds Festival dates sometime in June 2016.
