On December 23, 2015, Speaker of the State Great Hural (Parliament) Mr. Z.Enkhbold received a delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations led by Deputy FAO Representative in Mongolia, Mr. Kevin Gallagher.
During the meeting Speaker Z.Enkhbold was told that currently 51.9 million head of livestock is counted in Mongolia and a severe dzud (blizzard) might be occurred in 2016 that usually followed by a particularly hard and droughty summer.
As a result of dzud in 2009, approximately 11.3 million head of livestock perished. Considering such fact, Director-General of “Taij” group L.Ganpurev, who was present at the meeting, said that the FAO in collaboration with “Taij” group and other meat processing factories are ready prepare canned meat to deliver to those countries suffering from famine and to refugees. Moreover, such strategically important food of canned meat would be prepared by about one million head of sheep and goats that can be stored up to five years, say officials.
