August is a month to celebrate Equality & Pride Days in Mongolia, a time when LGBT Centre (Mongolia) celebrate with many cultural events and parades bedazzled in colorful memorabilia starting August 25 until September.
Today equality march to protect the rights of LGBT people was held at 11AM in Ulaanbaatar city. Human right supporters and Mongolian LGBT people have marched from the The National Institute of Justice to Peace and Friendship Palace.
N.Anaraa, Head of LGBT NGO:
"People want us to be quiet and blame us for organizing such events due to they consider it as a negative advertisement upon society. However, it is not a advertisement of LGBT people. We will never organize such events if people accept us and stop discriminating us. We are all human, just like you. However, we become victims of abuse, discrimination and violence. We want people to understand us. That is why we are organizing the event since 2013.
There are 300,000 LGBT people in Mongolia which accounts 10 percent of total population. Compared to the previous 5 or 6 years, society became friendly to us. Even, the Government approved a new law to protect our rights".
