A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck at area “Suuj” in Naiz bag, Saikhan-Ovoo soum, Dundgovi province, on February 12 at 17:45. The epicenter was located 179 km west of the province center and 49 km northeast of the soum center.
The Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics received the earthquake alert via email at 17:08, and the information was confirmed by the Office of the Governor of Saikhan-Ovoo soum through the Emergency Management Department of Dundgovi province.
Local authorities reported that residents experienced strong tremors and a herder in the area described hearing a loud rumbling sound, with houses and belongings shifting from their positions.
Tremors were also felt in Erdenedalai soum of Dundgovi province and in several soums of Uvurkhangai province, including Arvaikheer, Bayangol, Taragt, Khairkhandulaan, and Uyanga. As of 20:10, no damage or casualties have been reported
