ULAANBAATAR & AROUND. WHAT TO SEE AND DO?

Resembling nearly one half of the Mongolians, the capital city of Ulaanbaatar herself is a nomad. The city has changed locations for more than 20 times over the past 375 years before taking root in her current location in the valley of the Tuul River valley and the Four Holy Peaks in 1778.

Ulaanbaatar today is a lively city of more than 1 million residents, and has remained constant as the political, economic and cultural centre of the nations, and as a city of rich in both character and contrast. The city shows an interesting association of nomadic traditions and modern society, probably best shown by her horizon dotted with both Gers and the increasing number of towering skyscrapers. Moreover, the city’s divergence can also be easily seen among those who call it home, from herders sporting their traditional Deels, to Armani suit-wearing business men and women, to a growing number of expats hailing from almost every corner of the world.

Certainly there are not many capital cities, in which you can visit a museum, ride a horse, visit a nomadic family, and enjoy fine dining and luxurious spa treatments all in the same day. In short, there is something for everyone, and always a site to behold in Ulaanbaatar.
