The Mongolian Amateur Cricket Association (MACA) will hold its first unofficial international friendly cricket match between Craigengower Cricket Club and Mongolian XI team on Saturday 1 July 2017 in Ulaanbaatar.

Cricket was first played in Hong Kong in 1841 and Craigengower Cricket Club is one of the first and oldest of Hong Kong clubs, founded in 1894 (123 years old).

“This is a historic event in the history of cricket sports development in Mongolia. Craigengower is the first overseas team arriving in Mongolia and will be playing competitively with our national team. Although there are few Mongolian cricketers, with “guidig matka” in the blood and a noble spirit, Mongolians will soon become experts. More kids should be encouraged to play cricket,” said Battulga Gombo, founder of the MACA.

Australian, British and Indian Embassies provide ongoing support to the MACA. Thanks to local and international donations and with support from the National Park of Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian Friendship Cricket Ground was built in 2016. The ground is located within a 10-min walk on the west bike track.

An opening ceremony will start at 12 p.m on the Mongolian Friendship Cricket Ground on Saturday 1 July. The match, a Twenty20 “big bash” short format, will start at 1 p.m and finish at around 4 p.m.

Cricket is second to soccer in the world with its number of fans. Media are invited to cover Mongolia’s first international cricket match.

For more information, please contact Mr Battulga Gombo, founder of the MACA, at 9907 4866, or CricketMgl@gmail.com
