Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan arrive in Mongolia for state visit

At the invitation of Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, the President of Mongolia, His Majesty Emperor Naruhito and Her Majesty Empress Masako of Japan arrived in Mongolia on July 6, 2025, for a state visit that will continue through July 13, 2025.

The imperial couple was warmly welcomed at Chinggis Khaan International Airport by Minister of Foreign Affairs B.Battsetseg, Mongolia’s Ambassador to Japan B.Bayarsaikhan, and Japan’s Ambassador to Mongolia M.Igawahara.

This visit marks the first state visit of Their Majesties Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako to Mongolia.

During the visit, President U.Khurelsukh and His Majesty Emperor Naruhito will hold an official meeting to discuss ways to deepen bilateral relations and strengthen the enduring friendship between the two nations and their peoples.

As guests of honor, Their Majesties will also participate in the opening ceremony of the National Naadam Festival and attend other official and cultural events.

The state visit holds historic significance, as it is expected to further advance the “Special Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity” between Mongolia and Japan, two countries that share common democratic values, and contribute meaningfully to strengthening people-centered cooperation.

His Majesty Emperor Naruhito previously visited Mongolia in 2007 as Crown Prince, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Japan.

Following his accession to the throne on May 1, 2019, which marked the start of Japan’s Reiwa era (“Beautiful Harmony”), His Majesty made state visits to Indonesia in 2023 and the United Kingdom in 2024. This visit to Mongolia is the third official overseas visit of his reign.
