The General Department of Emergency Management has issued a warning regarding the rising risk of forest fires and ice collapse due to warming temperatures across Mongolia.
According to Colonel T.Bayarkhuu, Secretary of the National Disaster Management Authority, April’s weather is expected to align with historical averages in terms of temperature and precipitation. However, the risk of forest fires remains high, particularly in the eastern provinces, as well as in Arkhangai and Khuvsgul provinces. Citizens are urged to take precautions and follow fire prevention measures.
Additionally, due to an unusually warm winter, river and lake ice has thinned to between 10 and 80 cm, posing a significant hazard. Tragically, on March 8, 2025, two individuals lost their lives in Khuvsgul province when lake ice collapsed.
Authorities strongly advise against crossing frozen rivers and lakes to save time or shorten routes, emphasizing the serious risks posed by unstable ice conditions.
