The expansion and renovation of Zaisan Bridge are progressing steadily, with about 80% of the construction work now complete. As part of the project, the old Zaisan east bridge will be closed and dismantled on January 10, 2025.
According to B.Jargalduuren, a bridge inspection specialist at the Capital City Road Development Department, a new 225-meter reinforced concrete bridge is currently under construction. Work on the western, eastern, southern, and northern end supports has already been completed, and 80% of the intermediate supports have been installed.
“The assembly of the bridge beams began yesterday, and five spans have already been placed. In total, 50 spans measuring 18, 21, and 25 meters will be used in the bridge structure. These spans are being cast and reinforced in 2024 at Ulaanbaatar BUK JSC.”
The new four-lane bridge will be a double structure. The western section was put into operation in September 2023. Key components such as the reinforcement of the floor foundation, beam preparation, and installation of 17-meter-deep support poles have been completed.
The new Zaisan bridge is expected to be fully operational by June 30, 2025.
