Economic Policy and Competitiveness Research Center introduced “The Mongolia Provincial Competitiveness Report”.
Dornogovi, Orkhon, Darkhan-Uul and Umnugovi provinces took the first places of competitiveness, while Dundgovi, Zavkhan and Bulgan provinces are at the last. In particular, Bulgan province is the last for the third year in a row. The competitiveness of the provinces has improved by an average of 9 points.
P.Tsagaan, Chairman of Economic Policy and Competitiveness Research Center said:
- The Mongolia Provincial Competitiveness Report has been produced by the Economic Policy and Competitiveness Research Center since 2012. The provinces are ranked by 180 indicators in four categories: economic performance, governance efficiency, business efficiency, and infrastructure. We express our gratitude to all the organizations that helped to make the report during the pandemic.
There are 2-3 common things seen in the study. We are adapting to the pandemic and working in a new way. And the policies to support social welfare and employment are ongoing. We deeply understood the importance of infrastructure and investment when air and land borders were closed.
One of the features of this year's report is that Orkhon province was always in the lead, but this year Dornogovi province was ranked first. The province's investment and infrastructure development had a huge impact. According to the report:
Dornogovi province is good at issuing business licenses, while Arkhangai province is not good.
Unfair competition is low in Selenge province and high in Uvurkhangai province.
The lowest number of migrants to Ulaanbaatar was 378 from Bayan-Ulgii province, 3728 from Tuv province and 3732 from Uvurkhangai province.
Gender equality is high in Arkhangai and low in Khentii.
The business environment is good in Dornogovi, but poor in Zavkhan and Arkhangai.
This shows the need of improving the business environment for the development of not only the province but also the country.
A certain percentage of corporate taxes remains in the province, and governors need to attract investment and businesses to the province. The significance of the report is that it compares the past with the present and uses the improvements to improve the competitiveness of the provinces.
The resource of the survey is based on surveys by the Statistical Office, the Bank of Mongolia, and businesses, and it has no political impact.
