ASEM 2016: Some ASEM Leaders leaving due to instability in Turkey and France

The 11th ASEM Summit took of yesterday July 15 and will continue today. The Asia-Europe Meeting is being attended by 51 heads of state and government, and other leaders.

On 14 July 2016, a cargo truck drove into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, France, killing  84 and injuring some 200 people. 

ASEM 2016 attendees sent their condolence to people of France and held moment of silence at the meeting. Additionally, ASEM leaders made statement on International terrorism. 

After the news of Nice attack, Foreign Minister of France Jean-Marc Ayrault who was attending the 11th ASEM Summit concluded his visit early and left yesterday. 

Then last night, attempted military coup against government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan break loss in Ankara and Istanbul, Turkey.

President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades attending ASEM 2016 is leaving the summit half-way due to this unexpect development because of the neigboring location of Turkey and Cyprus.

Additionally, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia made announcement to it's citizens residing in Turkey to be aware of the situation. Some 3500 Mongolians live in Turkey, of 200 living in Ankara and 3300 in Istanbul.
