Bus ride is to require the passengers to have smart cards to have a ride starting July 24th.
The use of smarts cards for payment for a bus ride was expected to start on July 1st, but due to some postponing the project implementation starts from tomorrow.
The use of smart cards will enable to improve the public trasportation services as the data regarding the daily commuters will be tracked in real time and the budget will be transparent, which in turn will allow to monitor the subsidies from the goverment.
For commuters the use of smart cards will enable to have information of the bus services immediately.

Normal cards can be purchased at any card issuing spots and can be refilled. While other cards will be issued through the relative authorities.
Elders and disabled residents should apply through their khoroos, students should apply through their universities and police personnel through their authorities.
Card purchase will cost MNT 3,600 and can be refilled with MNT 500 up to MNT 90,000 and there is no expiration date.
CARDS CAN BE PURCHASED AT "U MONEY” SPOTS NEARBY THE BUS STOPS
“U money” spots are available at the service centers nearby bus stops and Customer Service center of the Ulaanbaatar Smart Card LLC, located at the Ulaanbaatar Bank building, 3rd floor on working days through 9AM to 6PM.
Any inquiry related with smart cards and its use can be directed to call center at 78111289.
Currently there are 190 Smart Card purchase spots established nearby the bus stops at the trade and service centers. Further spots will be available at the newstands as well.
The number of the Smart Card selling spots to be increased to 500 over the time and for those passengers who haven't yet bought smart cards there is cash collecting box located near the driver's cabin.
No change will be available when the passengers use cash for the ride, therefore it is advised to have exact bus fare.
FRONT DOOR FOR ENTERING AND BACK DOOR FOR GETTING OFF
Passengers to enter at the front door and place the Smart Card at the reader nearby the driver's cabin.
If the card is used for fare of multiple passengers please notify the driver and place the card as many time as number of passengers.
At the get off passengers need to place the cards again at the reader at the back door.
REDUCED FEE AT THE TRANSFER, BUT NOT AVAILABLE CURRENTLY
Previously it was announced that tranfers within 20-30 minutes will be at reduced fare. But it is still not yet decided on the reduced amount and when it will available.
Therefore, passengers are advised to make sure to read the card when getting off the bus.
