Biggest sports event in Mongolia 'Ulaanbaatar International Marathon 2016' took place on Saturday June 4 for the 3rd time. This year 24,383 thousand people were registered, which makes it highest number of registered participants.
On this day, UB city had car-free day on central streets of Ulaanbaatar city. The marathon was organized by UB city office and UB sports department and other official partners. Mayor E.Bat-Uul noted in his opening speech: "We have some high level athletes from Kenya, Japan, and Korea but everyone has the same opportunity to win." Total of 117 foreign athletes from 21 countries ran for this year's marathon.
Mongolian State Honored athlete B.Ser-Od (2 hours 18 minutes) in male category and International Master of Sports B.Munkhzaya (2 hours 37 minutes) in female category won gold medals respectively in the full 42 km. Whereas N.Munkhbayar and Ch.Shinetsetseg won gold medals in the 21 km marathon.
