Coal Mongolia 2017: 1500 trucks transport coal on Gashuun Sukhait port daily, now it decreases to 600

ULAANBAATAR (GoGo Mongolia) - 7th annual “Сoal Mongolia-2017” international coal trade, investment conference, and exhibition is taking place on Sep 6-9 in Shangri-La Hotel Ulaanbaatar.

D.Ariunbold, CEO of “Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi” JSC highlights at the interview that:

"In Aug 2017, Chinese side intensified its check on trucks passing the Gashuun Sukhait port and extended the length of the check. Due to the fact that trucks are often caught up in smuggling goods such as animal products. Half a month ago, approximately 120 km long truck queue was stuck at the Gashuun Sukhait port. Today only 600 trucks pass Gashuun Sukhait port daily. Earlier, it was 1500 trucks.

Affiliated ministries of the two countries are discussing the issue and seeking solutions. I think that the political instability of Mongolia is affecting the final decision.

We have to work hard to sell our coal on the global market using all possible ways. Currently, we deliver coal to China through paved roads to Gashuun Sukhait port. Thus, the railway project to Gashuun Sukhait port needs to be implemented as quickly as possible. Our company is ready to fully support all infrastructure projects".
