Latest trend observed especially in the city is the increased number of fitness clubs and gyms and many younger people are attending. Today we want to introduce D.Otgonbayar, who succeeded in losing her weight and become contestant at the Miss and Mister Fitness competition.

I am Otgonbayar and 24 years old. Graduate of Mongolian University of the Science and Technology and work for Green Catering as the chef for two years now.
Why did you choose fitness?
I was chubby since childhood. As I remember I was 64kg during my high school, which was my fittest. But I am 1.55m tall and still 64 kg will be considered as overweight.
After I started my job I noticed that I was putting more weight as I work in food catering. I reached 81 kg and was horrified by it. I decided to do fitness and joined Golden Gym right away. At Golden Gym their doctor mentioned about the contest on biggest looser and I decided to join. My parents weren’t enthused about the contest, but my friends encouraged me a lot.

I guess it does require a lot of commitment and time?
Indeed. The results will be visible only after a huge commitment. The competition started in January, but I started in February, so it required a lot of time and effort from me. So I took my vacation and committed myself for this purpose. By the end of my vacation I asked the doctor if I had any chances for winning the competition. Doctor encouraged me if I put little bit more effort I might have chances. So I decided to take another 2 weeks off of work and continued my training.
I was telling my parents that I was going to work, but in reality I was working out in gym for 3-4 hours, at some days if I was enthused I would spend 6 hours per day. After work outs I would go to my uncle’s place to rest and then again was hitting the gym. In the evening would go home as if thou I was working all day /laughed/.
What was the result of such a fierce work out?
I was placed third, which was not bad at all. I managed to lose 15kg and was 66kg by that time. My parents saw me on TV and called me.
Tell us more about the Miss and Mister competition. You should have worked out a lot to compete in that.
This competition is organized among the Golden Gym customers and I wasn’t thinking of taking part in that. My coaches suggested me to try myself, but my parents told me that I have already lost enough weight, but my uncle encouraged me to continue to pursue the fitness, as he was working out himself. He told me that if I managed to loose weight in such a short period, I could definitely compete at this competition as well.
Meaning you lost more weight?
Yes my weight dropped to 47kg. Even though I didn’t succeed at the competition I managed to loose all that weight that was putting me down with my effort.
What was the driving force behind your success? As many would agree, usually girls do not have that much patience to keep up with the strict diet and loads of the work out.
I set up my goals and also was competing with others. Also it would have been too much to lose on the halfway, because I have put my time and a lot effort into it. I didn’t want all that to go down the drain. At first, it was really hard. One gets tired a lot and the body would be sore. I even had moments of breakdown and started asking myself why I am doing this to myself. But as long as you overcome those, you start to feel better and the body requires working out.
There should be other triggering reason to make you start all this change in you.
When I was child, every one would say I was cute chubby. But as I grew up I wanted to be fit and wear dresses as other girls. I noticed that the attitude changes overtime and people would change. Other reason was I couldn’t buy the clothes that I would like and only clothes that would fit me were old styled. Moreover, some would say that there is no size to fit me, if I would ask the price.
After losing all that weight my clothes were too big for me and I needed to do some serious shopping. But at the stores I couldn’t even say which size would fit me, because I had no idea of the sizes. When the shop assistant said that size S or M would fit me, I was really happy. I never regret all the pain and effort I put into myself.
For some it might be difficult to afford the fitness clubs?
If one decides to take charge of own health and body there are many options such as YouTube videos one can follow and do work outs everyday. There is absolutely nothing impossible for one who commits oneself.
When I was starting with my exercise there were some people who would say that I am wasting my time and money. May be it was because they never walked in my shoes. I thought that it might be too late, if I didn’t do it now. May be afterwards it would require more effort and more money.
Moreover, fitness helps to relieve stress. At times when there is something happens at work, after work out I would be really calm and relieved.
It becomes an addiction?
Indeed. It is very addictive and after the competitions I was taking some time off and relaxing at home. During that time I couldn’t sit still and was thinking of it. So I would just grab my training bag and hit the gym. But now as I want to pay more attention to my family and boyfriend I really took off some time from the gym. Also it is the season when every food catering company gets busy. So I need to focus on my work too.
Were you dating before the weight loss?
No, I had no boyfriend at all. So the change in my body has also brought positive changes in my life.
Is it mandatory to take proteins during the workouts? There are a lot of different options for proteins. Does it have negative effects on body?
There are many types as you mentioned. I only use milk protein as was advised by the doctor. This one does not make you fat and only support the muscle mass. Also it has sweet flavor and helps a lot to fight with the urge to eat chocolate or candies, during the diet.
I suppose it is always good to consult with the coach and doctors before you take any protein. The options might differ depending on one’s body.
You mentioned the diet. What diet do you prefer?
When people hear the word diet, they automatically start thinking of eating nothing. On the contrary during any diet, one can’t starve. One should eat small portions many times a day.
During diet it is advised to cut on any types of fat and reduce the salt. If you can reduce or even cut the salt it would help a lot, because salt hardens fat and makes it hard to burn.
I prefer to consume whole grains, vegetables, egg white or two pieces of black bread for breakfast, chicken, veggie salad and any other vegetable except the potato for lunch and for dinner I prefer eating fruits and yoghurt.
Many prefer easy ways for loosing weight such as drinking teas or taking pills. What is your thought on those methods?
I do not support any of those methods. During the competition other competitors were using some supplements to reduce their weight. Even the doctor would say that other are using, For me, I didn’t want to consume anything that I didn’t know, also I am concerned about my health too, as I am to become mother some day.
No pain, no gain is my new slogan. I truly believe that this is very true.

How would you imagine Otgonbayar without any changes?
She would have been still fat and with low self-esteem. Now everything has changed, sometime I am ashamed of my old photos /laughed/.
What would you say to other girls who decided to make change?
There is nothing impossible once you have a will. Many people think that chubbiness will never wear off. But one doesn’t know until tries. Also many think that results show right away. It doesn’t work that way. One should be committed and enthused to make a change. No pain, no gain.
