Local by-elections and re-elections for the Citizens’ Representative Khural took place in the Soums of 11 Provinces on June 24. A total of 79 candidates from the Mongolian People’s Party, the Democratic Party and the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party ran in the election.

The General Election Commission of Mongolia released figures stating that only 51.64 percent of registered voters cast ballots in the re-elections, whereas 50.78 percent of eligible voters for the by-elections, voted in this round of elections.

According to preliminary reports from the electoral sub-commissions of the Provinces and Soums, there are 17 electoral districts where voters’ attendance didn’t meet the 50 percent threshold required.

The General Election Commission of Mongolia plans to organize a second-round of elections in the 17 electoral districts on June 30, in accordance with Mongolia’s Law on Elections.
