19 parties and 2 coalitions registered to participate in the 2024 Parliament election of Mongolia, and submitted documents of 985 nominations for constituencies, 385 for list nominations, 46 independent nominations, totaling 1416 candidates.
The General Election Commission accepted the request of 17 candidates who wanted to withdraw their candidacy and returned the relevant documents.
The meeting of the General Election Commission was held and made a decision to register 1,245 candidates for the 2024 Parliament election of Mongolia, 1,206 nominated by parties and coalitions, and 39 nominated by independent candidates.
Also, the General Election Commission decided to refuse to register 154 candidates who did not meet the requirements. In particular:
76 with overdue tax liabilities
63 with missing documents
5 who are serving a sentence according to a valid court decision
4 members of parties other than the nominated party or coalition
4 who do not meet the requirement of signatures of at least 801 voters from the electoral district
1 full-time civil servant who has not been dismissed from office within the legal term
1 candidate who was found by the court to have committed corruption
According to Article 33.2 of the Law on Elections of the Parliament of Mongolia, it is possible to remove the violation of refusal of registration and submit the documents required for re-registration to the General Election Commission by June 2, 2024. Therefore, the General Election Commission submitted requests to the relevant institutions to work on public holidays and holidays to provide the candidates with the opportunity to receive relevant inquiries within the period specified by the law.
