Starting today, 21 aimags have the opportunity of internet access for "Same price - stable speed". Regardless of location the internet speed will be 3 times faster than before which means Youtube videos will load without any delay.
Although 285 communities in Mongolia are connected through fibre optic cabel, the data transmitting speed through main network is 2.5 gbps. This was insufficient to introduce some communications and IT services to rural communities.
Therefore, Mongolian government took series of works to solve problems such as financial, legislative issues as well as extending rural communities network.
Information and Communication Networking Company (ICNC) is tasked with the preparation and starting March 15, 2016, 16 aimag centers will be connected to 1 gbps network. Remaining aimags are expected to be connected in April 1.
16 aimags that will be connected to extended 1 gbps network on March 15 are listed below:
- Arkhangai
- Bayankhongor
- Bulgan
- Govisumber
- Darkhan-Uul

- Dornod
- Dundgovi
- Orkhon
- Uvurkhangai

Network capacity increase and internet cost decrease creates overall better access and quality communications in rural communications. Previously the maximum speed in rural community was 300 kbps and it took 270 seconds to fully load 3 minute long video but with the new setup, it would take only 80 seconds.
