Mongolia held it's 2016 parliamentary and citizens' representative khural election on June 29. Mongolian People's Party (MPP) won 65 seats, Democratic Party (DP) won 9 seats, Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP) won one seat and Singer S.Javkhlan won one independent seat out of 76 seats in the Parliament.
The number of women candidates won the election have caught the attention of the public.
Prime Minister Ch.Saikhanbileg`s cabinet had 11 women MPs which accounted for 14.4 percent of total MPs. As preliminary result, this year 13 women candidates were elected. Interestingly, 12 of them are elected from the MPP while only one candidate is elected from the DP.
According to voting results, B.Undamraa got the biggest number of votes (9,673), who is followed by Ts.Garamjav (9,241) and G.Monkhtsetseg (8,900).
The most promising candidates M.Batchimeg and G.Uyanga (incumbent parliamentarians) and P.Anujin were not elected, while current women MPs D.Oyunkhorol and D.Sarangerel were re-elected.
