The construction work of the Tavantolgoi-Gashuunsukhait railway has been completed and the transportation has started today.
The construction work was started in 2012, ten years ago, but it was stopped until 2018. And in 2018, U. Khurelsukh, the President of Mongolia who was the Prime Minister, started the work of connecting Gashuunsukhait port, which is the main coal and copper export port of our country, with the Tavan Tolgoi group of deposits by railway. Therefore, U.Khurelsukh, the President of Mongolia is participating in the opening ceremony today. This railway, built by Bodi International, is the first heavy-duty, first-class railway in Mongolia. Mongolian engineers and technicians also participated in the construction of the railway.
About 700 people, including 500 employees of "Bodi International" LLC, ministers, and medias, are participating in the opening ceremony of the railway in Tsogtsetsii sum of Umnugovi province.
One month ago, the border connection point of Gashuunsukhait-Gantsmod port was finally agreed, and transportation has started today.
By operating 258.4 km Tavantolgoi-Gashuunsukhait railway, 30-50 million tons of coal and other cargos can be exported.
- The cost of domestic coal transportation will be reduced by four times, and 30-50 million tons of coal will be exported annually.
- Destruction of pastures, dust, noise, soil and air pollution will be significantly reduced.
- Traffic accidents and violations will be reduced.
- Production rate of mines around the Tavantolgoi can increase by 2-3 times.
- About 2,000 permanent jobs will be created.
- Taxes of USD 20-28 million will be paid annually.
Tavantolgoi Railway LLC is the main customer of the railway, Bodi International is the general contractor, and 62 companies are working as subcontractors. More than 200 enterprises, 3,000 engineers and technicians, and 1,200 heavy-duty vehicles are operating in the one shift in the framework of the project.
