The Gobi is a desert area and it covers through southern Mongolia, northern and northwestern China. It is the largest desert region in Asia and the fifth largest in the world. It is bounded on the north by the Altai Mountains and the Mongolian steppe, on the southwest by the Tibetan Plateau, and on the southeast by the Chinese Plain. The Gobi was an important area during the Great Mongol Empire, and several towns along the Silk Road were located in the Gobi.
Due to the majestic Himalayas blocking rain clouds, the Gobi was formed. The Gobi is rich in unique and rare animals and plants. Nemegt Mountain in Umnugovi Province is famous for its rare findings of ancient dinosaurs.
