The international projects and programs are being implemented to improve the capacity of ports such as Zamiin-Uud, Kangi, Gashuun Sukhait, Shiveekhuren, Khavirga, and Altanbulag.
Zamiin-Uud Port handles 70% of all cargo traffic and 30% of passenger traffic entering the border of Mongolia, and generates 15% of customs revenue.
The infrastructure of Zamin-Uud Port is being improved, the cargo and passenger terminals are modernized, and the entering capacity is increased by 4-7 times by a grant of CNY 233.5 million from the Republic of China, as well as state budget investments.
In framework of the project:
- Construction of 30 buildings in the passenger and transport section,
- Construction of 28 buildings in the cargo transportation section,
- Heavy-duty highway construction,
- Complete engineering works,
- External power supply works are planned.
As of today, the passenger terminal has been completely renovated and put into operation. This will increase the passenger capacity by three times. However, the cargo transportation terminal is planned to be fully renovated and put into operation by next July, and the total work has a performance of 91%.
On February 14, U.Khurelsukh, the President of Mongolia, visited Zamiin-Uud port with relevant officials, and got acquainted with the activities and developments. The President stated that the development of the Zamiin-Uud port reform will open wide opportunities for Mongolians and create the conditions for economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Within the scope of the port revival policy, the goals to connect border ports with railways and paved roads, improve the competitiveness of transportation and logistics, and create the basic conditions for becoming a transit country have been put.
With the modernization of Zamiin-Uud Port, the trade turnover between Mongolia and China will improve.
