ULAANBAATAR (GoGo Mongolia) - Representatives of doctors working in public hospitals of the capital city and 21 provinces are protesting to demand an increase in pay.
Today nearly 10,00 doctors and nurses marched today to Sukhbaatar square from the Victory square.
Currently, the Government budgets 300 billion MNT approx 122 thousand USD for the one-year pay of doctors. Doctors demanding less than 50 percent salary increase, which is equivalent to 155 billion MNT approx 61 thousand, and submitted the demand officially on Sep 15.
According to the doctors' requirements, the basic salary of tuberculosis physician set to be raised by 30 percent. Meanwhile, Acting Minister of Finance B.Choijilsuren stated that wages of other physicians cannot be increased until 2019.
Demonstrators announce to go on strike if the Government will not respond the requirements within Oct 11.
S.Oyunchimeg, head of Dornod aimag`s union of medical staff says: "The minimum monthly wage of our staffs are 300 MNT approx 121 USD and the highest are 600 MNT approx 242 USD. Majority of our staffs have housing mortgage, leasing, salary and personal loans. If the Government accept our demand and increase the salary by 50 percent, doctors` financial issues will be solved for a while".
